So your dreams have become reality - you're doing what you love. You're singing regularly - very regularly.
Maybe you're a worship leader at your church. You're responsible for singing during a weekly rehearsal, a midweek service and multiple services on Sunday.
Perhaps you're an up and coming singer/songwriter whose latest release is gaining notice. Instead of performing a small gig once a month, you're singing every week, giving interviews and using your voice more than ever.
You might be an established artist whose latest single is a breakout hit.  Since you understand the power of market momentum, you're constantly traveling, promoting, interviewing and of course singing - sometimes multiple times a day.
Is there a way to maintain clear, beautiful, powerful singing when your voice is in constant use?
Of course there is, but it takes discipline.
HYDRATE HYDRATE HYDRATE
Maintaining proper water balance in the body goes hand in hand with beautiful singing.  Did you know that your body hydrates large muscles and vital organs first? What this means is, if you become dehydrated, it can take a few days for your voice to operate normally again, because the water you consume will first go elsewhere. To maintain balance, eat water-rich fruits and vegetables and drink water.  Try to keep your sodium, caffeine, alcohol, refined sugar and processed food intake low.
WHEN YOU DON'T HAVE TO SING - BE COMPLETELY SILENT
Using this strategy for just a few hours at a time is very effective mainly because it gives the muscles used in singing time to relax. Singing is an athletic endeavor.
All muscle groups of the torso, neck and face/head work very hard when you sing.  Depending upon your vocal technique, undue pressure could be placed on the muscles of the throat and lower jaw.  Since these muscle structures are quite small, they quickly become overloaded after aggressive use. Silence is the answer.
Singers are extremely creative people - our facial expressions and body posture say as much as our voices do.
When you're resting your voice, take advantage of this.  Still need to say something important? Use text or email.

EXERCISE AND GET REGULAR MASSAGES
Since your body is your instrument, maintaining a reasonable degree of aerobic and muscular fitness benefits singing.  It also helps to improve posture, boost the immune system and relieve stress.  Massage goes even deeper, allowing complete relaxation in muscles that become tight from long hours in the car, on a plane or sitting in meetings, interviews and rehearsals.

Stay well. Sing Beautifully
